The Pyrenees of Lleida are home to some of the most pristine ecosystems in Europe. Pallars and Alta Ribagorça stand out as premier destinations for fly fishing for native brown trout.

The Splendor of the Noguera Pallaresa
The Noguera Pallaresa basin is the heart of Pallars Sobirà. With its strong, consistent flow, its catch-and-release sections—especially around Llavorsí—offer challenging yet highly rewarding fly fishing.
Massive hatches in early summer provide the peak window for dry fly enthusiasts on this river.
The Purity of Alta Ribagorça
To the west, the Noguera Ribagorzana and the rivers of the Vall de Boí (such as the Sant Nicolau) offer a more intimate setting.
In these crystal-clear waters, stealth is paramount. Here, fly fishing blends seamlessly with a landscape of Romanesque architecture and the peaks of Aigüestortes National Park.

Fly Selection for the Pyrenees
Mediterranean trout in these basins are heavily influenced by the mountain climate. CDC Mayflies and deer hair Caddis are the go-to patterns on sunny days.
When surface activity slows down, fishing heavy nymphs (perdigones/heavyweights) in faster currents is the most effective way to target the largest specimens.
Fishing in these areas is strictly regulated to ensure sustainability. Most sections are Controlled Fishing Zones (ZPC) where catch-and-release is the standard. A specific daily permit is required to fish these waters.
