The Noguera Pallaresa Holds Some of Catalonia’s Largest Trout Populations

The rivers of the Pallars region continue to stand out as one of the main strongholds of native trout in Catalonia. According to Pallars Digital, a new interactive visualization produced by the Catalan Government shows that the Noguera Pallaresa and the Segre River host some of the largest trout populations in the country.

The news highlights the ecological importance of the Noguera Pallaresa, one of the most iconic rivers in the Catalan Pyrenees and a benchmark destination for many recreational anglers thanks to the quality of its river ecosystems.

Throughout its more than 150 kilometers, the Noguera Pallaresa flows through some of the best-preserved landscapes of Pallars Sobirà and Pallars Jussà, providing ideal habitats for wild brown trout and a rich diversity of mountain river wildlife.

These findings come at a time when the conservation of freshwater ecosystems is more important than ever. Responsible angling, catch-and-release practices and habitat protection remain essential tools for ensuring the future of trout populations in Pyrenean rivers.

At PescaCatalunya, we have often highlighted the importance of the Noguera Pallaresa and the rivers of Pallars as leading examples of sustainable fishing in the Pyrenees.
